Andrew Charnitski Tribute

Andrew P. Charnitski, 74, of Northford, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on December 27 at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Andy was born on May 30, 1946 to Andrew and Veronica Charnitski in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Andy earned both a Bachelor of Arts degree from Sacred Heart University and a Master of Arts degree from Fairfield University. 

After college, Andy began his career in teaching and his students affectionately referred to him as “Mr. C”. He taught English and Social Studies for 32 years. Andrew also coached boys and girls high school basketball. Andy loved being a teacher and made a difference in the lives of his students. He was an avid Civil War buff and attended Gettysburg College Civil War Institute. 

He married Nancy Masek in 1969. Andrew and Nancy enjoyed traveling to many historical Civil War battlefields together. They had one daughter, Laura. He was a proud grandpa to his granddaughter Reese. 

Andrew is survived by his wife Nancy Charnitski, daughter Laura (Larry Ruggiero), granddaughter Reese, and his sister Catherine.  He is also survived by nieces Cathy and Karen and her daughter Katelyn and his nephew Kevin.   

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National Kidney Foundation. A mass will be said in his name at St. George Parish at a later date.
