Biography

Helen Audrey Timmons Bielefield, a long-time resident of Torrington, passed away surrounded by her children, her grandchildren, and her extended family on Christmas Day at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Born in 1928 in South Orange, New Jersey, Audrey was raised in South Orange and then Hamden, as the only daughter in a family of boys, her beloved brothers David, Taylor, Don, and Dick.

She was a self-proclaimed tomboy and reveled in the outdoors. She was an avid hiker, Girl Scout, and equestrian. She adored her horses and the absolute freedom of riding. Audrey taught riding throughout her teens and as a student at Adelphi College, from which she graduated in 1951. Her professional career always involved helping others running the gamut from president for the New Hampshire Girl Scout Council to dedicated social worker in several New England states, to working with troubled youth in the Northwestern Connecticut Juvenile Court system.

Audrey will be dearly missed by her brother, Richard Timmons, her children Jane Bielefield, Jane's partner Tracey Roberts, Lucinda and Joseph Heuschkel, Dan and Pat Bielefield, Donna and Ted Larson, her grandchildren Jenni Blake Mihalich, Riley Bielefield-Roberts and Caroline Bielefield-Roberts, Matthew, Joseph, and Jessica Bielefield and their mom, Donna Bielefield Merli, and Marissa, Zackery, and Abigail Larson, along with her many nieces, nephews, and loving friends.

Memorial gifts may be made to White Memorial Foundation, 80 Whiteball Road, Litchfield, Connecticut or to the Girl Scouts of Connecticut, 340 Washington Street, Hartford, CT, 06106.

A celebration of Audrey's life will be held on Jan. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Center Congressional Church, 155 Main Street, Torrington, Connecticut.
