Barbara Gilpatrick

MANCHESTER - Mrs. Barbara Bazemore Gilpatrick, 86, passed away on September 3, 2010.

Her life exemplified grace, love and faith while reflecting the light of Christ.

Mrs. Gilpatrick was born in Atlanta, Georgia and lived there until retirement when she divided her time between Maine and Florida. For the last ten years she resided in Manchester, Connecticut.


She graduated from Girls High School in Atlanta, Georgia in 1941, where she was voted most original for the Senior Class, and attended the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. She and her husband, Carroll, raised their family in College Park and East Point, Georgia and were co-owners of Gilpatrick Construction Company. Barbara and Carroll met in Savannah, Georgia during World War II where she worked in the Air Field Control Tower for the FAA and he was stationed in the Army Air Corps, before his tour of the Pacific, which separated the newlyweds for 2 ½ years. She was a very gifted artist and writer, and also enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, music and dance. She always made time for her beloved family and friends and enjoyed their company devoting her every effort to their comfort and well being. Barbara was also a great communicator and correspondent who always, faithfully and proudly, updated many widespread family members on current family events.


She was pre-deceased by her sister Louise Donehoo Sloane. She is survived by her husband of 66 years Carroll Gilpatrick, of Whiting, Maine, son Hunter Gilpatrick and wife Mary Jane, of Topsham, Maine, son Gary Gilpatrick and companion Sally Fitzsimmons, of Whiting, Maine, daughter Denise Farmer and husband Bob, of East Point, Georgia, son Barry Gilpatrick, of Manchester, Connecticut, brother T. C. Bazemore and wife Polly, of Santa Barbara, California, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
