SEYMOUR – Doris M. Sykes, 83, formerly of Bethany, passed away on July 20, 2011 at the Hospital of Saint Raphael in New Haven. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Sykes, Jr.
She was born July 4, 1928 in West Haven, CT, a daughter of the late Sylvester Marvin and Mary (Prince) Saunders.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family while bowling and playing cards. She also enjoyed working on crafts, crocheting, and quilting blankets for the children of family and friends.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Jacqueline Campbell and her husband Jim of Georgia; her son, Robert Sykes and his wife Diane of Pennsylvania; a granddaughter, Jenny Campbell of New Jersey; two sisters, Barbara Slater and Carol Salatto both of Bethany; sister-in-law, Grace Saunders Boulanger of West Haven; and brother-in-law, John Sykes of New Haven; and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by a brother, Marvin Saunders of West Haven and a sister Betty Withington of Florida.
A graveside service will be held at the Carrington Cemetery, Bethany on Wednesday,July 27th, 2011 at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Bethany Ambulance Corps., 765 Amity Road, Bethany, CT 06524.
