Kopera, Edmund Jacob “Jack”
Born April 22, 1919. Passed away peacefully on September 14th, 2010, at age 91, with his family at his side.
Devoted husband of 60 years of the late Ruth (Orlowski) Kopera; much loved father of Susan and Dr. Raymond Malamet and Mark C. Kopera (Katherine), dear grandfather to Christopher, Peter and Andrew Malamet, Matthew Kopera, and Melissa (Christopher) Bird; great-grandfather to Aedan and Corbin Bird. Brother of the late Charlotte (William) Plonka. “Jack” cherished the long friendships of brothers-in-law Daniel and the late Edward Orlowski, niece Catherine Short and nephews Ted Short and Peter Linkowski, sisters-in-law Marie and Dolores Orlowski; the late Eleanor and Stanley Linkowski; and many dear nieces and nephews.
A lifelong Buffalonian, Jack served for 6 years in the United States Marine Corps as a Platoon Sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1946. During World War II he saw action at Okinawa and Casablanca and served proudly aboard the heavy cruiser and flagship USS Augusta. Following the war, Ed made his career as a Buffalo Police Officer and, until his retirement in 1983, spent most of his working life as a motorcycle policeman stationed at Police Headquarters in downtown Buffalo.
Ed was a passionate sports fan who enjoyed playing golf and rooting for the Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees. He wore his Yankees cap with regularity and never missed an opportunity to enjoy a game.
Semper Fidelis………..Always Faithful…………. to his last days, to Ruth, his family, Buffalo, the family home on Clinton Street and, most importantly, his country. We were blessed to know him. He both guided and graced our lives immeasurably.
A celebration to honor his life will be held at a later date. Memorials in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
