Eugene Gardecki

Eugene M. Gardecki (Gene) passed away on February 27, 2013 at the Masonic Home in Newtown, CT. He was 78 years old. He is survived by his wife Barbara Karacsony Gardecki of Sandy Hook.

Gene was born in Nanticoke, PA and grew up in Stratford, CT, graduating from Stratford High School. He also attended the University of Bridgeport and was a member of the KOE Fraternity. He was a veteran of the US Army.

Gene lived in Fairfield and Bridgeport before moving to Sandy Hook. He was employed at the American Chain and Cable Company Co. until it closed in the mid 80's. He retired after many years from Helen Keller Middle School in Easton. His great joy after retirement was filling his days with part-time employment at the Arena and Ballpark at Harbor Yard. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, especially baseball, watching classic movies, and also drawing and sketching.

Gene is also survived by his son Andrew and wife Martha of Danbury, his daughter Ruth Simpson and husband Jay of Beacon Falls, and grandchildren; Christian, Jakob, and Alexander Gardecki, and Patrick, Victoria, and Sean Skehan. He is also survived by brothers Gerald and Daniel and sister Dorothy all of Stratford. He was predeceased by brother Stanley. He had many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunt.

A memorial service will be held at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West St., Newtown on Sat. March 16th at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Gene's name to the V. A.
