NEW HAVEN – John A. “Johnny De” DeMartino, 60, of New Haven, departed this life on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Yale New Haven Hospital surrounded by his family.
John was born on June 25, 1951 in New Haven, son of the late Angelo “Popcorn” and Catherine “Kaye” (Celone) DeMartino. Most recently he worked on the Yale Health Van. He spent much of his life mentoring and educating youth about the HIV virus. He enjoyed spending time outdoors especially in his neighborhood of Morris Cove where he spent his entire life. He will be most remembered as a Father, Brother, grandfather, and friend.
He will be remembered always by his family: a daughter: Jillian Jack and her husband Daniel of East Haven. His sister, Linda DeMartino-Marcella and her husband Joseph of Northford. He also leaves his grandson: Alexander Jack of East Haven along with his Aunt, Shirley Sampson of West Haven. He is preceded in death by a brother, Peter A. DeMartino and a nephew, Anthony DeMartino-Marcella.
John’s family and friends invite you to join a celebration of his life on Sunday, April 22, 2012 at 12:00 PM at the Fort Hale Park Pavillions in Morris Cove. There will be food and refreshments to follow the service which will take place at noon and will continue until 4:00 PM. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family for a trust fund which will be created for his grandson. The Cremation Society of New England is handling arrangements.
