Joseph P. Cahill, 66, a native of Forestville, CT, passed away on March 3rd, 2026,
following a courageous battle with leukemia. Before he returned home to Jesus, Joe lived in
Connecticut his entire life. He leaves behind his treasured family: high school sweetheart
Deborah (Brewer) Cahill, and their four children, daughter Kelly and husband Fetah, daughter
Mary and partner Nico, daughter Joan, and son Samuel and his partner Sofia. His favorite role in life was being “Pop-Pop” to his granddaughters, Margaux and Stella. Joe is survived by his
mother, Norma Thompson Cahill, and his sisters: Megan Goodfield and husband Paul, and Sheila Therriault and husband Carl. He was predeceased by his sister, Colleen Cahill, and his
father.
Joe was a man with a generous spirit and the ability to see the good in all people. He
dedicated his life to service, and carried the message as a friend of Bill W.’s for over 40 years.
He was a sponsor and mentor to many. Joe was involved in various ministries, giving his time
and money to orphanages and organizations. Much laughter could be found in his backyard.
Whether he was cracking jokes with his buddies around the fire pit or fine dining with his wife
before a show at Beacon Theater, he was happy, joyous, and free.
Throughout his life, he was a passionate athlete excelling in football, track, and ultimate
frisbee – all with one hand. Joe will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and a fierce
competitive streak. If you played Scrabble or cribbage against him, be ready for an
Olympic-level match. He had an infectious wealth of knowledge on a range of subjects. The
sounds of classic rock, films, The Simpsons, and cop shows regularly filled the living room. He
always nourished others through cooking and gardening. On a beautiful day, you might find him
cruising in his Miata with a good cigar.
For decades, Joe was employed as a premium auditor, a job that he loved. He often took
his children and grandchildren on "adventurous" audits when they were small. His adventures
extended outside of work. Joe loved going to concerts and exploring new places with his most
beloved Deb. Hawaii, St. Thomas, Ireland, and the Florida Keys were some of their favorite
travel destinations.
Joe had a wonderful life and brought his zest for living to all who knew him. He will be
deeply missed. A celebration of life in his honor will be held on March 28, 2026, at 10 a.m. at
Oasis of Life Christian Church, 31B Inwood Rd, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
